Mystic Lake, Beartooth Mountains
Mystic Lake is the deepest lake in the Beartooths, at more than 300 feet. Also, it is the largest lake in the Beartooths, at over 2 miles long. Once climbing to the Mystic Lake overlook, you can continue to follow alongside the lake for 3 miles, eventually passing Mystic and coming to the more remote Island Lake. After crossing Island lake, there is a beach and remote area where the team camps for two nights. This is a great introductory backpacking trip of three days and two nights in the backcountry. Total hike is over 2,080 feet of elevation gain and 11.1 miles roundtrip.
